Medvolt Construction Services (Medvolt CS), a Tepa company, is acknowledged by Concrete Promotional Group (CPG) for their contributions to the Swope Park Industrial Area (SPIA) Floodwall and Levee project located in Kansas City, Missouri. The construction project is recognized for excellence in the Commercial/Industrial Wall category.

Medvolt CS partnered with the United States Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District to address serious flooding concerns affecting local businesses. The SPIA is often subject to periodic flooding from the Blue River located near the area. The flooding typically cuts off access to and from the SPIA while inundating it with flash flooding, ultimately threatening employee safety and increasing the potential for loss of life.

Medvolt CS team members built a floodwall and levee system around the area’s perimeter to address flooding concerns, provide critical flood protection and ensure the manufacturing center’s continued economic viability.

The team conducted significant amounts of concrete testing, including inspections of the slump, air and overall concrete strength throughout all seasons for concrete pours. Local businesses near the site remained open during the construction activities, requiring Medvolt CS to collaborate with the companies to limit interruptions to their operations. To minimize disruptions, team members brought in pump trucks with booms allowing concrete trucks to easily access and place concrete in floodwall areas from a distance.

The Medvolt CS team incorporated creative techniques to complete the SPIA project with impressive results. Residents and employees can feel safeguarded from flooding, and area businesses can continue operating without interruption ensuring greater financial stability.
