Environmental Remediation

Tepa’s environmental companies have successfully executed a wide range of complex investigation and remediation projects for multiple U.S. Army Corps of Engineers districts, the Air Force Civil Engineer Center, the Department of the Interior, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Navy, and other federal clients. Our federal experience has given us a deep understanding of how to successfully deliver projects by meeting and exceeding performance objectives and regulatory requirements, maintaining schedules, managing risks, and controlling costs, all while ensuring high-quality technical execution and strict adherence to rigorous quality and safety standards.

Tepa’s environmental remediation services are designed to effectively address and mitigate environmental hazards. Our team specializes in HTRW sites and follows regulatory processes that include the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and state risk-based remediation programs.

We have extensive experience conducting investigations and designing and implementing remedial actions at sites impacted by legacy and emerging contaminants, including PFAS. Our expertise spans a wide range of technologies and approaches, such as high-resolution site characterization, monitored natural attenuation, enhanced bioremediation, in situ chemical reduction, in situ chemical oxidation, pump-and-treat and groundwater recirculation, air sparging, soil vapor extraction, and soil removal.

PFAS Technical Expertise and Data Management & Visualization

PFAS, often called “forever chemicals,” can be found in water, soil, air, and even in consumer products. The assessment, monitoring, and possible remediation of these substances can be challenging in the evolving understanding of this emerging contaminant.

Tepa’s environmental companies have successfully executed a wide range of complex technical PFAS support for the U.S. Air Force (USAF) nationwide. Our team of experts delivers the expertise needed to navigate the rapidly changing PFAS regulatory landscape, offering technical execution support that aligns with federal, state, and U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) requirements.

The Tehama, LLC (Tehama) team has extensive experience partnering with the USAF to address challenges at complex emerging contaminant sites. This includes conducting site-specific and programmatic technical evaluations that support senior leadership decision-making and provide expert technical guidance for engaging the regulatory community, the public, and Congressional delegations.

Tehama developed the DoD’s largest and most comprehensive geospatial database of all PFAS investigation and response data across USAF, Active, Reserve, Space, Air National Guard, and Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) installations. This database is used for proactive program management, interpretation, and predictive analysis. Tehama also leads the DoD’s most robust PFAS conceptual site model (CSM) program, providing hydrogeologic contaminant migration analysis at more than 50 DoD installations.

Environmental Compliance

Cultural and Natural Resources

Our team is well-versed in National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance and planning, including full-range NEPA document preparation, stakeholder outreach and engagement, Air Conformity Analysis, and agency coordination. Tehama is known for providing exemplary conservation services such as cultural resources management, architectural history, ecological modeling, and protected species studies and management.

We have successfully supported the U.S. Department of Agriculture and DoD with State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) coordination and Section 106 compliance, as required, and our cultural resources experts have decades of experience supporting agencies with consultation and working with SHPOs and other interested parties. With support of qualified teaming partners, we have experience preparing Biological Assessments (BAs), including programmatic BAs, in accordance with Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act as well.

Military Munitions Response Program

MMRPs play a critical role in cleaning up current and former military sites that may contain discarded munitions or unexploded ordnance (UXO). By investigating the site to evaluate potential risks, safely removing hazardous items, and protecting public safety from chemicals or ordnances, our team of munitions response (MR) experts helps return land to safe and productive use.

Tepa’s environmental suite of companies have experience with all phases of MR work, from Preliminary Assessment to Remedial/Removal Action and long-term monitoring. With support from our geophysics partners, we have the capability to perform all aspects of MR work, including analog and digital geophysics, dynamic one-pass advanced geophysical classification, incremental sampling, drone-based site investigations, and underwater investigations/remediation. All munitions and explosives handling is conducted under our Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) permit # 5-CO-005-33-6F-00965.
